Debra Benton, president of the consulting firm of Benton Management Resources, Inc. and author of CEO Material (McGraw-Hill 2009) was selected to be a member of the International Women’s Forum (IWF).
The IWF is a by-invitation-only organization of pre-eminent women who are heads of state, CEOs, entrepreneurs, opinion-leaders and decision-makers.
“The group provides a haven for women leaders to meet among their peers in a non-competitive environment and grow meaningful friendships and alliances,” Benton said.
Susan Schell, managing director of Citadell Advisory Group and former president of the IWF Colorado Chapter, and Pat Stryker, founder of the Bohemian Foundation, are the two other members from Fort Collins.
The mission of the IWF is to further dynamic leadership, leverage global access and maximize opportunities for women to exert their influence. The organization has Chapters in 21 countries on five continents.
New members are selected based on “accomplishments that indicate a breadth and depth of competence in her field; and demonstration of an ability to integrate her talents into a larger arena that impacts the community as a whole,” according to the IWF.
Other members include: Cathleen Black, President, Hearst Magazines; Ann Moore, CEO, Time Inc.; Gale Norton, Secretary of the Interior, U.S.; Judy Woodruff, Senior Correspondent, CNN; Olympia Snowe, U.S. Senator, Maine.
Benton’s latest work, CEO Material: How to Be a Leader in Any Organization, builds on the powerful lessons she has culled during her thirty-year career. Benton reminds readers that they are their own career managers—and gives them the tools to take the helm of their own lives, not relying on their boss, their boss’s boss, the HR department, or headhunters to steer them in the best direction.
