Debra, this is an insightful list. I, for one, find several areas to focus on pulling from your list. What might be the referenced big areas for success as referenced in the first bullet?

Debra,

Your post is extremely refreshing to read. Just last week, I engaged a few friends in a discussion on this topic. I share your perspective: "from day one forward... going to do it ethically." Some people feel that if you take this route, you may miss opportunities.

Personally, I find it much easier to “keep it real and straight” – this guides everything I do and ensures that the situation and my actions stay honest and predictable (to me and those around me). This sets the foundation for building strong relationships based on integrity and results!

Thanks for a great post. To me the ideal coach brings a balance of telling and creating awareness. He/she makes coachees take responsibility for their own actions. Significantly, as an executive coach I have always tried to mould my approach based on my client's mental make up, personality profile and current needs. While we follow some established processes, there cannot, in my opinion, be a "this -fits-all" approach.

Advice that is practicle and needed. Taking the handshake to another level and further creating a persona of leadership is while shaking hands, look directly into one eye. It is impossible to look into both eyes at once as it causes one to shift their eyes back and forth. Looking into only one eye gives the person you are greeting the feeling as though the focus is entirely upon them, which of course is at it should be!
